It's that time of year again folks! Time for Costen Floors' huge annual yard sale to benefit the American Heart Association. This year the event has a new name - Have a Heart Bazaar. In addition to yard sale items, this year's event will have local crafter/artists, food vendors and other great items for sale.

I'll be there with great yard sale deals! Housewares (bedding, vases, etc.), furniture (Ikea chairs), plus-sized clothing (size 22-24 casual, business), records, and tons of craft supplies (fabric, knitting needles, yarn, etc.), and much, much more all priced to move!

The event will run from 7 - 10 pm tonight then again tomorrow from 12 noon - 6 pm. Pop Culture Rehab will be hanging out with Sew Ono Eco Apparel upstairs so stop by and say hi!
 

Swap art & craft supplies this Sunday

The 3rd annual Crafters Anonymous Craft Swap is this Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at Art Works. The Craft Swap is an opportunity for artists and crafters of all types to get together in a fun, social environment and trade craft supplies. This event is also a benefit to support Art 180 - a Richmond based non-profit organization that creates and provides art-related programs to young people living in challenging circumstances, encouraging personal and community change through self-expression.

Entry into the swap is $6 at the door. If you bring a bag of supplies to swap, the entry fee is $1. Upon entry you will get 1 grocery bag to fill to your hearts content. You are welcome to purchase additional bags for $5 each. If you have your own reusable bags please feel free to bring those to use (fees will still apply). There will be tables set up to hang out and craft so feel free to bring a small project to work on.

So gather up all those unused supplies and come hang out with us this weekend!

Call for Artist: Fool for Art 2010

Unleash your green & creative spirit and head out to John Tyler Community College for the 5th annual Fool for Art Festival on April 17, 2010.

Space is available for artists and craftspeople to rent during the festival, which will run form 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. All vendor applications will be juried by the College's staff. All applications postmarked by December 31, 2009 qualify for a discounted registration fee of $50. Some crafty fun for a rainy day

If you are looking for some crafty fun on this chilly, rainy Sunday check out the Intergalatic Bead Show at the Richmond Raceway Complex. The bead show has always been pretty good...I've never walked out with nothing! Oh - and don't forget copies of your VA resellers license if you have one. Vendors give tax discounts and other discounts to professionals. The show is open until 5pm. See you there today!

Divine Design & Craft Boutique Benefit

Yes, yes, I know I'm no longer a member of the Richmond Craft Mafia. However, I do like a good show and I do like to support great organizations!

The Richmond Craft Mafia is pleased to announce it is collaborating with GayRVA.com to bring you a fabulous holiday event. The Divine Design and Craft Boutique, is a holiday gallery to benefit the Gay Community Center of Richmond (GCCR). You’ve probably seen or even visited the GCCR and not even realized it: Diversity Thrift, Thursday night Diversity Bingo, and the GCCR Gallery all share space in the rainbow-bedecked building on Sherwood Avenue, right by The Diamond. Please visit us during the opening reception Friday, November 13, 7-9pm for some great shopping for a great cause.

It's in the Bag 2009 Charity Handbag Auction

For the past several years, LINC (Legal Information Network for Cancer) has hosted a handbag auction here in Richmond to raise money for their organization. This year's event is this Thursday November 5th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the new Westin Richmond Hotel. General admission tickets are only $25 and gets you plenty of tasty treats, cash bar, and an official auction number so you can bid on one of around 100 stylish, creative handbags.

LINC is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families deal with the financial and legal side effects that arise from the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Through its network of volunteer attorneys and other professionals, LINC helps cancer patients understand the intricacies of health insurance, protect their jobs, secure disability benefits, arrange for care and custody of children, forestall debt collection efforts, and plan for the future by drafting wills, powers of attorney and advance medical directives. Even if cancer hasn't directly affected you, I'm sure we all know someone who has been hit with this terrible disease. The work that LINC does is so essential to those who are navigating our current health care and legal systems while trying to focus on beating the disease. So please, grab your best girlfriends and make an evening of it by supporting the auction! Even if you don't bid, the event is very exciting and lots of fun.

And if that wasn't enough to get you to come out - Lark Studio has donated a bag to the event!  Our Urban Tote Bag is made from a recycled vinyl banner from The Science Museum of Virginia. The bag is fully lined in durable black denim and bidding starts at only $45. I will have some additional goodies for whomever wins the bid on the bag!

National Blog Posting Month

November is National Blog Posting Month or NaBloPoMo for short.  During this month the goal is to blog everyday, including weekends, to help set the habit of blogging. Needless to say I 've gotten out of the habit a bit, but I'm participating in NaBloPoMo again this year to get back in the habit. If you are a blogger, consider joining in. Marathon blogging is a very good excercise and it can be quite fun! Feel free to leave a comment with a link to your blog if you do.

Have a girls night out for a good cause

Next Thursday I will be participating in Richmond's first Girls Night Out! event to benefit Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatment and a cure for autism. The organization works to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. I don't have a personal connection to autism, but I do have several friends who are dealing with this disorder. I see how they struggle and it needs to stop.

Girls Night Out! will be a crazy, fun event held at The Colony Club in downtown Richmond. There will be shopping from over 40 vendors, salsa lessons, food, wine, mini spa services, door prizes and more! Tickets are only $15.00.
